Breath Breaks

Self-care is not just a buzzword, nor is it vain; it’s vital. Taking care of yourself could mean a spa day, getting a good night’s sleep, unplugging from online news sources / social media outlets in the evening to recenter yourself or it could be as simple as just focusing on your breath. Taking a deep inhale through the nose and a long easy exhale out the mouth helps to clear your head, focus in on what your body needs along with a multitude of benefits which positively impacts the circulatory system, the nervous system and even the lymphatic system.

Give this a try any time, any place. Choose a comfortable position, seated maybe even a resting position such as on your back with your knees bent. Breathe naturally, then place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly. Exhale everything out, then allow a full inhale to lift you, creating space in your body; then let your slow exhale soften you, allowing you to settle into the space you’ve just created with your inhale. Repeat as many times as needed.

Breath Breaks are a great way to recharge yourself throughout the day, especially at work. Once you become aware of your breath, it becomes an infinite resource to nourish the body and mind. Deep breaths are like little love notes you leave your body; it’s incredible!
