Yoga Kitchen & Co.: End-Of-Year Reflections
"The idea of overcoming is always fascinating to me. It's fascinating because few of us realize how much energy we have expended just to be here today. I don't think we give ourselves enough credit for the overcoming." ~Maya Angelou
Describe your 2016 in one word.
We’ll revisit that in a moment…
On Sunday, December 18, 2016 was the second installment of Yoga Kitchen & Co., a unique experience that nourishes the body with movement and yummy eats while building a community of women openly sharing their voice.
In all honesty, 2016 feelings like it’s ending on a heavy sour hopeless note. I knew I wasn’t alone in feeling that way and I had no desire to enter 2017 dragging that bag with me. I believe in the power of movement and community. It’s has always been a source of empowerment. Now more than ever I needed a space to move, talk my shit and listen to the experiences of other women but I couldn’t find anything that really vibed with. And as the saying goes, if you don’t see what you are looking for, create it.
We began with a soulful Strala Yoga flow back by an all female playlist - Adele, Solange, Sia, Amel Larrieux, Florence + The Machine, etc. - moving to boldest of voices. After, we circled up to get to know each other and what 2016 was like for us individually. Love, success, adventure, trash, transformative… were just some of the words used to describe 2016 for some. We discussed what brought us hope; what we’ve learned and what we need to let go of. The more we shared, the more we began to see the beautiful lotus in the murky 2016 water. Tension and unease rolled away as so many smiles, nodding heads and laughs filled the room. During the discussion, we nibbled on No-Bake Bomb Bites, easy to make nibbles that are healthy and tasty. Everyone craving seconds!
Issue the call and the people will answer… Seeing women of all ages, ethnicities, sizes enter the space as strangers and leave connected to themselves and each other on a deeper level gave all of us that magically, hopeful feeling to usher in the new year with. My heart is so full of gratitude for everyone that made this installment such a success.
The seed has been planted, time to keep watering and nurturing this beautiful community as it grows. I’m super excited to see where this journey will lead. The next Yoga Kitchen & Co. pop-up experience will take place Sunday, January 29th, 2017! The theme for the third installment is, “Manifest Your Vision”. Keep an eye out for sign-up and location details.
A big big thank you to our friends at Athleta Flatiron for hosting us in their gorgeous studio.
More to come. More to absorb. Stay Tuned!
