The holiday wish list for the body, mind and soul

Oprah isn't the only one with favorite things to share

It's the most wonderful time of the year! A season of celebrating, giving, receiving and connecting. Here's some of my favorite things... okay, I'm not Oprah but having favorite things and wanting to share them with others isn't an original idea, just sayin'. There are some timeless staple pieces on this list like books and music plus a few items that speak to being a kid at heart. Also, this year I got a little fangirl crazy over subscription boxes. I tried many but only three remain. So here are some of my favs and I would love to hear what some of yours are too!

SPOTIFY

Yea, I'm late to streaming. I said these were my favorites, I didn't say they were the latest "it" things.

I held out forever buying CDs, imports too. My iTunes library has well over a year's worth of music if you listen to it continuously for 24 hours daily. I wasn't open nor ready for change. But then I began teaching yoga and curating the right playlist to set the tone of a flow is everything to me. Finally I signed up for $9.99 a month. I love being able to follow friends and see their playlists or what they are currently listening to. Creating a collaborative playlist has been a fun way of interacting with those that take my classes.

Overall I'm a music junkie and this is a really cost-effective way to gain access to classics, current hits and those on the rise.

Play! by Sephora Subscription Box

Full disclosure: Essence Beauty Box had my heart. The contents were curated for and by women of color. Each month was a beautiful surprise that is until they announced that they would no long offer this amazing box, #crushed.

At the very same time Play! By Sephora began accepting new subscribers for their very in demand box. Figured why not couldn't hurt to try but I honestly didn't have high hopes that each box would have items to fit my needs. WRONG! Each month the box contains five deluxe skin care, makeup, and hair care samples plus a fragrance all based off the profile you create; a cute collectible bag that changes with each month’s theme (perfect to toss in your gym bag to hold the little things like your jewelry, #gymbaghero; a "PLAY! BOOK" with tips, tricks, how-tos, and beauty advice; you and a friend can have a "PLAY! DATE" to learn how to apply the products in the box and the list goes on, seriously there is just too much to mention. All this plus a ton more all for just $10 a month! #BallerOnBudget

salt. by Nayyirah Waheed & bone by Yrsa Daley-Ward

These books were published in 2013 and 2014 and I've been fortunate to catch glimpse of there work via friends or social media posts. Finally this year I was able to get my hands on a copy of both. I don't love poetry and short stories in a blanket manner. Actually, it's rare for me to find work that is able to make me laugh, cry, nod at things that I've never been able to express so eloquently, so simply.

These works are truly food for my soul. Another one of my "Self-care Sundaze" staples. Hot tea, cozy throw blanket currled up in my favorite (well, only) armchair as i read various pieces slowly, deliberately.

Palermo Body

I'm really excited to share one of my favorite skin care companies with you all; Palermo Body is a collection of truly natural skin care products made by hand in small batches by founder Jessica Morelli, a pretty rad chick, #GirlBoss. My jam is the coffee body scrub; it smells and feels amazing & I don't even drink coffee. My skin looks radiate long after I've rinsed off.  This item was a "Self-care Sundaze" game changer.

Adidas: Avenue A Subscription Box

This year, Adidas launched a new quarterly subscription box aimed at runners! I lit up when i heard this. Every box is so on point! We are talking high quality items from Adidas can we say Stella McCartney, hello! There were highlight items in each box - Spring box was the Stella McCartney Big Sport Bag, valued at $190!; Summer was the adidas’ miCoach Fit Smart watch, valued $150; Fall (shown to the left)  was the adizero Boston, valued at $120. The overall value of each box ranges from $350 to $500. Freakin' insane! Plus the items in each box are so useful and thoughtfully curated. If you or someone you know are a fitness fanatic or really like athleisurewear then this box is for you.

If you want to sign up, the Avenue A by Adidas Box is $150 a box and ships once every three months. Every Avenue A box is filled with 3-5 premium items (mix of shoes, apparel, and accessories) selected by well-known fitness experts and fashion trend-setters who exemplify style, fitness and performance.

I'm a child at heart. It doesn't show often but once you step into my home it's everywhere - stickers cover my desk, I have little figurines, stamps, stuffed animals... oh man, I sound like a hoarder. Anyway, it's great fun to nerd out over your beloved fandoms - Sherlock, Doctor Who, Harry Potter - and classic stories like Narnia, Peter Pan, One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Fandom boxes in general have fun things, great reminder to not always take yourself so seriously. I mean you're not going to hang a lot of art in your formal dining space but it might mad a pretty rad piece in your bathroom.  HBP provides artwork that satisfies both your inner kid and your grown-up aesthetic.

HalfBloodPrints Subscription Box

It's more like a large envelope than a box really. In it you receive an 8×10 art print, a bookmark, a calendar magnet, a custom sticker, and a lots of other goodies for $8 per month; upgrade to the premium tier for $18 per month.

Meddy Teddy

Isn't he just adorable!

Namas-teddy! ha! I crack me up. I love that this bear is used to teach kids how to do yoga, mindfulness and meditation in a fun way by holding a variety of yoga poses on its own! Meddy Teddy is still in the launch phase so expect delivery some time in the New Year. retailing for $29.95.

On my icky, sicky days, when I don't want to move a muscle; it's nice to hang out for a sesh with Teddy Poseavelt... yea I renamed him. I'm a adult and I can do as I please!
