Power-up your day by starting it off with a shot of this elixir first thing in the morning. It’s a great small step to take for better health. Drinking in the morning will allow you to absorb the nutrients quickly and get your digestive system moving. A healthy gut is key to total body wellness. There are a variety of ingredients that are excellent for improving gut health. Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients in this elixir.

Apple Cider Vinegar

This is a wonder liquid. I could write a lot about ACV and the multiple ways it can improve your life! For the benefits of your digestive system and beyond, ACV naturally balances your body’s pH and blood sugar. It has many enzymes and acts as a probiotic improving gut health. It also aids in detoxing the liver and lymphatic system. You can even make your own and it won’t cost you a penny!

Raw Honey

There are several immune boosting benefits to raw honey, and a good immune system starts in the gut. Raw honey has enzymes, vitamins, and minerals that will nourish the body as you detox. The bonus benefit of honey for this elixir is its sweet taste! This combination of ingredients is a little hard to swallow, but the honey makes it go down much smoother.

Ginger

One of the most well-known digestive aids, it’s also anti-almost everything, which will give your body a strong health boost. Raw ginger made into a tea is the best thing to take when you have digestive trouble. In this case, powdered ginger works best to mix with your other ingredients.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a popular spice. cinnamon is one of the most delicious and healthiest spices on the planet.  The antioxidants in cinnamon have anti-inflammatory effects, which may help lower the risk of disease and  can improve some key risk factors for heart disease, including cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure. Plus it has antifungal and antibacterial properties, which may reduce infections and help fight tooth decay and bad breath. Cinnamon can lower blood sugar levels, reduce heart disease risk factors, and has a plethora of other impressive health benefits.

Nutmeg

Nutmeg is a popular spice that has a long list of associated health benefits, including its ability to relieve pain, soothe indigestion, strengthen cognitive function, detoxify the body, boost skin health, alleviate oral conditions, reduce insomnia, increase immune system function, and prevent leukemia, and improve blood circulation.

I make a batch Sunday and once I'm out of bed I take two shots of this before starting my morning yoga and meditation practice. Super easy to make and very refreshing first thing in the morning.

Makes 1

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Tbsp raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cups purified water
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp raw honey (to taste)
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • ¼ tsp ginger
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

DIRECTIONS

Mix ingredients in a glass or small jar, be sure to shake vigorously because raw honey doesn’t mix easily. Shortcut, you can warm the water to help the ingredients to blend. Simply refrigerate after. 

 

NOTES

  • You can also add in cayenne pepper, coconut oil, and fresh lemon juice.
  • Drink daily or a few times a week.
  • And as always be sure to check with your doc before changing your diet if you have special conditions or on medication.
